News Articles About Pennsylvania Gathering

Thought you might be interested in reading some of the local news about the Rainbow Gathering out of Warren, PA, a town very close to this year's National Gathering. There are comment sections full of debate after each article.

  1. Is it true that the gathering is over on July 4th? I thought the praying was on the 4th and then it all starts? Have I been mistaken?

  2. The official dates of the Gathering are from July 1st - July 7th.

It reaches it's peak on the 4th, when everyone comes together silently to pray for peace, each in their own way,in Main Meadow from dawn until "Rainbow Noon".

At noon, the children from Kid Village break the silence with a festive parade into the circle singing and dancing, with costumes and facepaint. The whole family joins hands in circle for the Ohmmmm, and then a raucous party ensues, and much watermelon is consumed!

People come for Seed Camp, getting all the infrastructure set up a couple weeks before the 1st. Many more stay behind long past the 7th, until the last camp is disappeared and the last piece of trash is hauled away.

  3. That was so informative, thanks so much! The first article on this post lead me to believe that the festival ended on the 4th, said article. I was personally worried because I wasn't going to be up there until the 3rd and I was disappointed to find that it may already be over. Thanks again, Sister. :)

  4. Thought you'd be interested to know that an edited version of the Lisa Thompson article appeared in my local paper, The Morning Call! We live in the Lehigh Valley, PA, about 5 and 1/2 hours away from the site. I think it was edited for size, not content, and appeared in its entirety online. I was disappointed that the edited parts included a decent explanation of why Rainbows gather and what the prayerful intentions are, as well as leaving out the end section about the brother who was tackled over having his hands in his pockets too long....no comments were left on that article as of last night....

  5. Yeah, if you look, THAT article was picked up by a lot of smaller newspapers in the area. This year is not the best media coverage we have ever had. One reporter came all the way out to the parking lot, interviewed people and left, without ever going in. I think he thought the parking lot WAS the Gathering! We sent him a note inviting him back again.
